The first birthday photo session is a wonderful way to celebrate your child’s milestone of turning one. As an Atlanta baby and chid photographer, I’ve worked with many clients through the years to document the big moments in the lives of their families and children. Many of my clients elect to do a bump to birthday membership so they can photograph every stage from maternity to newborn and the first birthday photo session. However some parents may only book a newborn session and forget to think ahead to the big milestone of the first birthday. Today’s post is here to say, it’s not too late!

1- It’s Never too Late!

As a mom of 4, I completely understand how busy life gets. Sometimes the days can slip away and you may forget to schedule the first birthday photo session. But, never fear, it’s not too late! The sweet boy featured in this blog post had newborn portraits, but the first birthday slipped past without first birthday portraits.

His parents regretted not having them done, and when they shared this concern with me, I responded by telling them it’s not too late! So even though he was closer to 19 months at the time of these portraits, we still celebrated the milestone of his first birthday with a cake smash. It was so fun and we were able to get both cake smash portraits and timeless portraits of him that will stand the test of time.

2- Popular Milestones to Photograph

First birthday’s aren’t the only milestone I photograph. Another popular milestone session is the sitter session. These are scheduled around the 6 month mark, or whenever you baby can sit up unassisted. You don’t have to stop taking milestone portraits after that first year! You can schedule milestone portraits of your child for any birthday!

Birthday or milestone sessions can be a special way to make your child feel extra special around their birthday. It is a session completely focused on them and they can feel celebrated and like the star of the show. And trust me, these portraits are SO much better than any school photos. Birthday or milestone sessions don’t have to feature a cake. They can just be a time to capture the details of your child at a particular age.
